      Volunteer State Student Assistance Scholarship


The Volunteer State Student Assistance Scholarship Program is dedicated to expanding access to higher education for qualified postsecondary students in Tennessee. This program underwrites tuition expenses for qualified incoming freshmen at participating colleges and universities statewide.

Created by Educational Funding of the South, Inc., the Volunteer State Student Assistance Scholarship Program helps promising young Tennesseans become the next generation of future leaders. Held to a standard of excellence and achievement, the institutionally-selected scholarship recipients are challenged and inspired to realize their full intellectual and personal potential through higher education.

Funding for this scholarship program is granted to participating public and nonprofit four-year colleges in Tennessee, with allocation amounts of:

  • $7,000 for four-year private schools
  • $5,000 for four-year public schools
  • $6,000 for four-year public research schools

To be eligible for this scholarship program, students must:

  • Be a Tennessee resident
  • Maintain a minimum 3.25 GPA for 7 semesters
  • Have a minimum ACT composite of 23 or SAT of 1070
  • Demonstrate community service or leadership involvement
  • Follow specific application procedures established by each institution
